Blogging can be very rewarding, personally, as well as financially. It can also give you a podium for your views, opinions and expertise. By blogging you can connect with others with similar interests and become, if you work hard, an authoritative source.
To help you do this I have put together five tips to help you succeed at blogging.
- Blog about your passions. If you are passionate about something the chances are you will be an expert and experts are always worth listening to. If you blog about your passion it will also be easier to come up with interesting and relevant content.
- Develop your own style. Serious, humorous, opinionated, dead pan, outrageous… The choices are almost endless. Find a style you are comfortable with and exploit it to the full.
- Post often. I would even say post often and little if necessary, this is much better than infrequently and long. Aim for 200 words as a minimum and occasionally right a big post of around 800 to 1500 words. Any more than 1500, split up the posts in to series and leave the reader wanting more.
- Promote your blog. There are millions of blogs adrift on the web. Some are dying and some are dead already. Make sure others know about your blog. Just writing posts isn’t enough to guarantee readers. Consider guest writing posts for other blogs as well as leaving real, valid and useful comments on other peoples blogs and in forums to establish your expertise.
- Make it easy to follow you. Use tools like RSS, Feedburner, Twitter and Facebook to make sure that your readers have an easy way to follow your blog and know when you have written a new post.
If you start with these five basic tips you blog is off to a good start!
